Morning & Afternoon Procedures

Visiting Westside

The Main Office Doors on the north side of the building is the only entrance accessible for visitors.  When coming into the building, visitors are required to use the parking lot and not the Vehicle Loop.  Upon arrival, visitors will use the intercom system before being admitted into the office.  All interior doors are locked for security.  

All visitors and guests are required by City Ordinance and West Fargo Public Schools to check-in at the office to receive a visitors pass. Thank you for following these procedures, which are designed for the safety of our children!

Before School

  • Buses will start to arrive at Westside at 7:35 am to drop off students in the Bus Loop.  Students that are dropped off by vehicle, must be dropped off in the Vehicle Loop by the Main Office Doors.  Students may only be dropped off and picked up in the far-right lane, exiting out of the right vehicle doors.  Drivers must remain with their vehicle.  Childcare vehicles may use the Bus Loop to drop off and pick up students.  Supervision will be provided in designated areas by staff with safety vests to assist students.  
  • Upon arrival, students may access designated activities or supervised areas, but are not allowed to go to lockers or classrooms before the first bell at 7:55 am.  Students that walk or are dropped off are encouraged to arrive just before 8:00 am.  Students may not be dropped off or enter the school before 7:30 am.
    • Breakfast starts at 7:35 am in the commons.
    • Wake Up and Walk will be supervised starting at 7:35 am.  Students will learn the walking zones on the first day of school.  K-2 students will stay on the North side and walk around the playground and the north sidewalk, 3-5 Students will stay on the South side and walk around the basketball court area, the south sidewalk and walking path.  
    • Reading Room starts at 7:35 am in the Library.
    • Homework Room starts at 7:35 am in Computer Lab.
    • When wind chill temperatures are below -15 degrees or it is raining, students are to report to assigned areas in grade level wings or the gym.
  • Students participating in Wake Up and Walk will be allowed to enter the building starting at 7:55 am and enter the school through assigned doors and assigned times to allow for physical distancing. 
    • 7:55 am Bell:  Kinder will enter Main Office Doors, Grade 1 and Grade 2 will enter Recess Doors (Door 13).
    • 8:00 am Bell:  Grade 3 students participating in wake up and walk will enter Recess Doors (Door 13), Grade 4 will enter 4th Grade Doors (Door 12), Grade 5 will enter Bus Doors (Door 11).
    • 8:00 am:  Students in the commons or specialty programs may proceed to lockers and classrooms after being dismissed by staff. 

After the 2nd bell at 8:00 am, all students are expected to be in the building and then in classrooms ready for the day before the third bell at 8:10 am to avoid being counted tardy.

Certified and classified staff will be assigned to outside supervision before school each day.   Teachers will be familiar with and review Morning Routines, Breakfast Routines and Wake Up and Walk Routines with students.

After School 

Walkers and riders will exit through the Main Office Doors.  Bus riders will exit through assigned Bus Doors.  Daycare transportation students will wait with staff by Room 216 for transportation and exit through Bus Doors

  • 2:35 pm:  Kindergarten students will be dismissed from classrooms and will be escorted by classroom teachers to the Main Office Doors and assigned Bus Doors.  Parents may meet students at the doors, outside of the school. 
  • 2:38 pm:  Grade 1 and Grade 2 students will be dismissed from classrooms and will be escorted by classroom teachers to the Main Office Doors and assigned Bus Doors.  Parents may meet students at the doors, outside of the school. 
  • 2:41 pm:  All Grade 3, Grade 4, and Grade 5 students will be dismissed.  Teachers will escort students to Bus Doors and Main Office DoorsGrade 4 will exit 4th Grade Doors (Door 12).

For students riding the bus, teachers will walk students all the way to the end of the sidewalk before allowing students to load the bus to monitor safety and positive behavior. 

For students getting picked up by vehicle or walking home, teachers will walk with students outside of the front Main Office Doors to monitor safety and positive behavior.  Supervision is provided to assist children and parents in the pick-up/drop off area to ensure safety and efficient vehicle movement.  Students will use the crosswalk and when accessing the parking lot.  Drivers must stay with the vehicles to be ready to move ahead to fill open spaces in the Vehicle Loop.  If parents wish to leave their vehicle to walk up to the building, they are required to use the parking spaces provided in our parking lot.  Any student not picked up by 3 pm will be directed to the office.    

After school YMCA students. Parents with students that attend afterschool childcare with the YMCA are required to park in the parking lot and walk with their children to the Gym Door (Door 3) to sign them out.  Parents should not park and leave their vehicle unattended in the Vehicle Loop.  Parents are required to sign children out with YMCA staff.

Childcare vehicles will pick up students after busses have departed.  Each childcare will have a designated area for students to wait inside the building before being escorted by a paraprofessional to marked childcare vehicles.  Marked childcare vehicles may enter the Bus Loop only have all 2 buses have parked in their assigned spaces.      

If transportation details change such as if parents plan to pick up your child instead of having him/her ride the bus, please call the main office before 12:00 pm.  Bus students cannot leave the bus line without verification from the main office on who is picking up the child. Please plan in advance.
